Cowl Flaps

Cowl flaps aren't necessary for the stock RV-10 if the baffling is done right (no air leaks) and the ignition timing is set correctly. However some builders still prefer the option to increase the airflow in climb on very hot days or reduce cooling drag when at altitude or in cold weather.

These cowl flaps are operated electrically with linear servos. The kit comes with a switch that allows either no flaps or full flaps. Some builders have modified the wiring to allow for interrupting the movement cycles and thus achieve partial deployment.
Consider mounting the cowl flaps adjacent to the F-10108B splice plate. This requires trimming the inside mounting flange so only the forward inner mounting hole is left.

The material thickness of the lower cowl requires a shim approximately 180/1000" thick to make the flaps sit flush with the cowl on the outside. CAD files for 3D-printing or CNC milling can be found in the 3D-Printed Tools and Parts section / CAD CAM section.
