Hints
- This section is called 41Q because Q stands for Quadrant. If you plan on using push/pull knobs, refer to section 41.
- For identifying hinges, see Van's hinge FAQ
- Consider pausing this section after 41-6 Step 1 until you have finished your electrical, avionics, and firewall work for easier access. You just can't install the windshield until this is riveted in place -- that's done at the end of Section 45 which you can also pause and defer until later.
- If you are going to use Skybolt or other camlocks to attach the cowling around the firewall, you don't need to fabricate the hinges. You do still need the spacers (41-7 Step 1). If you are using camlocks and want to fully finish this section, you'll need to rivet the camlocks now in place of the hinges around the firewall. But it's safer to lay out the camlocks if you at least have temporarily installed the engine mount, so consider deferring until Section 46 or jumping ahead and doing 46-02 Step 1 before proceeding in this section. Once the engine mount has been temporarily installed, you can lay out the camlock brackets, then remove the engine mount (46-02 Step 2) and then finish the riveting for this section (including the camlock brackets).
