Revision as of 23:24, 27 March 2023

Instead of using resistor shunts to measure battery or alternator currents, one can also use Hall effect sensors that do not necessitate to cut the cable and run the current through a shunt (more failure points). Garmin recommends the Amploc Key100 sensor. Reportedly, Dynon also recommends it.
Shunts need 1A inline fuses for each of the two current sensor connectors, Hall effect sensors do not.

The Key100 sensor doesn't really have a proper Molex connector, rather it has 3 gold pins that are cut off a wire wrap pin header strip plus a plastic glued on that makes it asymmetric for Molex connectors.
Somewhat compatible connector housing:

22 AWG Pins
