When installing per Van's instructions, it is important to rig the ailerons before to ensure alignment with the trailing edge of the wing tip. The Zip Tips are not as flexible as Van's and getting them to match can be challenge. There is a note in the RV-14 manual using a ratchet strap that I found helpful. If you have received Vans part W-1016, it will show you the amount of "bending" you will have to give the wingtip.
Note: Vans may no longer allow deleting parts. Depends on the kit.

Kit Deletions

  • If you are going with 3rd party wing tips, delete the following from the wing kit:
    • W-1015-L (left tip)
    • W-1015-R (right tip)
    • VA-193 (pair of lenses)
    • Bag 967 (lens hardware)

Note: Vans may no longer allow deleting parts. Depends on the kit.

  • FB thread on wiring up the Ziptip rear lights to the connector
  • When installing per Van's instructions, it is important to rig the ailerons before to ensure alignment with the trailing edge of the wing tip (note: elevator position influences aileron slightly).
  • The Zip Tips are not as flexible as Van's and getting them to match can be challenge. There is a note in the RV-14 manual using a ratchet strap that I found helpful.

  • If you have received Vans part W-1016, it will show you the amount of "bending" you will have to give the wingtip. Below is a picture comparing W-1016 to the insert that comes with the Zip Tips.

Zip Tips Power Measurements

  • Landing light: 2.28A per side
  • Taxi light: 1.5A per side
  • Nav light: 0.65A per side
  • Strobe: 2A average per side (14% duty cycle, 14A per side when flash occurs)
