** The RV-14 uses the POS-12 as well, see the RV-14 build manual, section 54 (posted e.g. here [https://n398wm.com/ N398WM build log], link "Flap Position Sensor 54". This sensor is not compatible with modern avionics which need an analog voltage input. Not a recommended solution.

Hints

  • Vans has upgraded the flap motor mid 2022 to a model that has an analog voltage output compatible with modern avionics. A position sensor is not needed.
  • Ray Allen makes the "POS-12" flap position sensor which is needed for the older flap motors. Available at e.g. Stein Air or Vans. It interfaces to either the VPX, the Garmin GAD-27 or Dynon electronics.
  • Vans sells a flap position sensor kit, however it is not sensing the continuous flap deployment angle, rather it is a set of switches that close at specific positions. This sensor is not compatible with modern avionics which need an analog voltage input. Not a recommended solution.
